English Language ArtsEighth-grade English Language Arts focuses on student participation and collaboration, closely reading literary and informational text (including classic and modern poetry) vocabulary analysis, literary devices, expository and narrative writing, speaking, listening, presenting, and project-based learning. All curriculum supports the Common Core State Standards.

AVID Elective for 8th Grade AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a college-readiness system designed to prepare students for their goal to attend a four-year college. Although all students are supported with AVID learning strategies, the AVID elective class specifically focuses on the students in the "academic middle" who want to take honors and Advanced Placement (AP) courses in high school, but may need additional support on how to succeed.
